As I've mentioned elsewhere, Cagney's is our traditional sailaway celebration dinner. We also experienced Cagney's for lunch, right after we were escorted onboard as suite passengers during embarkation. We can eat lunch there daily, and breakfast in Moderno, if we choose.

Lunch: Haven/Suite Exclusive

Appetizers

My grilled chicken Caesar salad

Roxan's Mushroom Flatbread

Entrees

Roxan's Roast Beef sandwich. I did not have an entrée.

Dessert

We both had the pistachio nut roll.

It was not really what I was anticipating as an "exclusive" experience for Haven/Suite guests. The food was not impressive at all — the only truly good component was Roxan's French fries. The advantage of a quiet location versus the noisy O'Sheehans or buffet was really the only thing.

Opening lunch experience:

Sailaway Dinner

Bottom line up front: underwhelmed.

Being creatures of habit, our sailaway dinner is usually the same set of dishes at Cagney's. I actually switched to the filet this time around...the ribeye is too much food.

Appetizers

We both had the shrimp cocktail. Let's be honest, as long as you're meeting health standards for freshness of the shrimp, this is a hard item to mess up. The shrimp were firm, large, and had a nice flavor. The place it fell short: the portion size on the cocktail sauce. Maybe it was a one-day thing, we'll see, but we barely got enough to dip the shrimp in. The portion used to be half again as much, or maybe even double the amount.

Entrees

As I mentioned, I switched to the filet in order to get a piece of meat I knew I could finish.

The side there is "Maitre'd butter" which has some additional spices added. And a broiled tomato,

Roxan had the petite filet.

Also with a broiled tomato on the side.

Meat quality: it is filet, so it was tender and consistent quality throughout. But I have the Longhorn at Longhorn Steakhouse from time to time, and this meat seems to be one quality grade below that. Nothing to do with the spice...just that the consistency of the meat was, like the roast beef at lunch, more "utility" or "lower" grade beef than I'm used to in a filet.

Just as we experienced last year on the Jade, I think we're starting to see a pattern here...the quality is sufficient, but not anything more.

Dessert

My apple pie tart. The taste was good, but the crust was dry. The ice cream was good :-)

A butterscotch dessert Roxan had. Neither of us remember the name...probably says enough about it. It was good, but not memorable.

Overall dinner rating:

Service rating: we did enjoy our server, who has many years of experience with NCL and on Jewel. I unfortunately don't remember her name. That's on me -- right now she could be in the running for one of our vacation heroes. Not as above the bar as Maye, but pretty good.
