I'm giving this attraction a separate post rather than including it in the overall Bar Harbor coverage because it is the first of several surprises along this course of this trip. The flower gardens are special places, and they have been unexpected nuggets in each of the ports.
The terraces are not part of the national park. They are separately run, open daily, and were created by Landscape Architect Joseph Henry Curtis. The gardens are owned and maintained by Mount Desert Land and Garden Preserve.

Having made the visit after a rainy morning, I was able to take some photos and video that I had never experimented with before, working with the light on the drop, branches, and leaves/flowers for some interesting shots.

A special shout out to our tour guide, Carli! She was genuinely friendly, full of history about the island, the park, and made the grey day a truly wonderful experience. I highly recommend Acadia Driving Tours and will be booking future small group tours through them for myself and my travelers.
